My Journey To Digital Music

Melco Customer Perspective –
My Journey To Digital Music
Craig Burrows

The excitement of buying a CD, or LP, and either finding a lot of information, or being disappointed with the limited notes, is something my generation cherished. Yet living in various countries, shipping a large collection of CDs and LPs became impractical; as much I enjoyed holding something physical, moving a large collection of music was difficult.

A decade ago, I noticed friends with digital setups benefited from the same audio quality as CDs, but making the switch to digital audio was challenging, particularly having an extensive and rare collection of Bach recordings.
When I finally decided to take the plunge and transfer my collection to FLAC, all my Bach needed to be correctly organised, so I spent hours tagging every recording by date, Conductor and the official BWV number. The problem was my first digital system did not have enough space, so I ended up with a hybrid setup larger than I started out with!

I upgraded to another manufacturer, only to find it tedious and painfully slow to find anything. At the time I was living in Asia and noticed that my friends with large music collections preferred Melco systems.

Melco turns 45 this year, that is a lot of experience! My N1A/2 is only four years old, but with 6Tb of storage, my Bach collection has plenty of space to grow - and just this week I downloaded two Hi-Res versions of Bach’s Mass in b-minor from HIGHRESAUDIO (who were significantly cheaper than others) directly to my Melco. It could not have been easier! While I do miss unwrapping of a new LP, the convenience of a PDF booklet straight to my computer is now comparable to opening a new CD. Also, I swear, as I have got older, the printing on CD booklets has got smaller (or is that just me?!)

Minim and the Melco HD app on my iPad also make searching for anything far easier than I could have imagined a few years ago. I just want to say thank you Melco for the ease and quality of a great product. Here is to another 45 years!

Melco Celebrates 45 Years with Limited Edition N10
Daniel Raggett - Melco Europe General Manager

I am really pleased to launch our 45th anniversary Limited Edition Melco N10, available from Monday 26th October, 2020.

There are only 50 pieces of this beautiful looking N10 available; first come, first served! Plus, they are only available in the UK and Europe (£7,499 / €8,299).

It really reminds me of a timeless piece of ‘70s Japanese Hi-Fi with the champagne style colouring and, along with a separate linear power supply, not only does it look great, it sounds great, too.  We have upped the capacity of this unit from 3 TB to 5 TB HDD storage, giving the user even more space to store their musical collections.

The 45th anniversary edition will come with the latest 4.02 EX firmware giving customers access to our very powerful Melco Intelligent Music Library (MIML) software which comprises SongKong (Metadata editing) and MinimServer (uPnP server). The USB Roon download (FW 4.04b from melco-audio.com) also adds Roon endpoint compatibility.

I am extremely proud to be representing Melco on its 45th anniversary. The company has so much interesting history and we are looking forward to the next 45! (probably the amount of working time I have left!).

Unfortunately, our founder Makoto Maki is not around to see this beautiful product, as he would have loved it and I’m sure he would have had one for himself (as I intend to). I would also like to give my thanks to the hard-working team in Japan for making this very special N10 happen.
